Pastor David Thompson Steals Over $1M

Ohio: David Thompson, the former pastor of The World of Pentecost Church, is accused of stealing more than $1 million from his former church.

"I felt as the pastor and as the overseer I was mandated first and foremost from God and also from the bylaws that I was to take care of the welfare of the church, and I put more emphasis on the people versus a building," Thompson said.

Thompson said that between 1998 and 2007 he spent tens of thousands of dollars on personal items, including four cars, private school for his children, a boat and a pool for his house. Thompson said his spending adhered to the church's bylaws but also admitted that he drained the church of all its money.

  1. I grew up with this idiot as my pastor. You know, you respect someone and trust them to do the right thing only to find out they are lying, thieving pricks that aren't worth your time or energy. You reap what you sow..... Have fun picking up the soap in the big house David!

  2. The church at issue in the David Thompson case is aligned with “The United Pentecostal Church International.” www.upci.org The "UPCI" does not even allow their women to cut their hair, wear slacks, makeup, etc. The Pastors in this cult-like fellowship have almost total control of the church. They retain that control by ridding the church of any member that challenges or disagrees with them. Retiring pastors, often hand down their pastorate to relatives. This keeps their tax-free, family business, in the family. Installing a son as pastor will insure that one keeps getting money from the church during retirement. Former pastor George D, Thompson should have been on trial here with his son. He and every other member of the Thompson family that lined their pockets through these thefts. This one case is just the tip of the iceberg in “UPCI” money or sex scandals. It is long over due to finally see one of these "UPCI" flock fleecers get prosecuted for their crimes.

    1. Unfortunately you are correct and it is not only in the USA! They think they are the modern day Aaronic Priesthood, unfortunately they are modern day Pharisees, and blind to their hypocrisy. Yet we are to love them still, if we are to follow Jesus.

  6. be careful how you judge
judgment can be and will be hard on the wrongdoer without question
judgment was waiting for him when he did wrong
judgment is also waiting for those who jump on the pile

  8. His family, wife, and children will suffer much longer than the press keeps this out there. But, this Pastor is doing like many others. They take every thing from the church and use it for their pleasure and no only this denomination.

God Bless and give his family peace.

    1. and you`re basing that statement on what? if he was such a "good" man as you say, he would have accepted his punishment (which was lenient) like a man and
not continue to lie to get out of prison early.

  10. the trial is over...judgement was pronounced...sentence was
given. david got 5 years. all the peoples lives he has impacted
negitively have gotten a life sentence. granted, we are not
behind bars like he is but the lives of many people, as a
direct result of his actions are paying for it as well. many,
never in their wildest dreams ever envisioned they`d be where
they are now.it really isn`t about the money. it`s all about
the devastating carnage that he has wrecked upon so many
innocent unsuspecting lives. such a pitiful shame.

  13. Lets not judge what a certain pastor from certain church does ? This type of behavior probably occurs throughout the christian churches
? My wife is pentecostal and her pastor is god fearing man who lives
by the bible and laws of the land.

    Lutheran, Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist, Church
of Christ, Pentecostal, and others that have done the samething. The bible tells beware of wolves in
    sheep clothing.
