Living Under The Taliban Threat

Time magazine reports on Afghan Women and the Return of the Taliban.

The Taliban pounded on the door just before midnight, demanding that Aisha, 18, be punished for running away from her husband's house. Her in-laws treated her like a slave, Aisha pleaded. They beat her. If she hadn't run away, she would have died. Her judge, a local Taliban commander, was unmoved. Aisha's brother-in-law held her down while her husband pulled out a knife. First he sliced off her ears. Then he started on her nose.

Pastor Convicted Of Theft Of Church Funds

Wisconsin: The former pastor of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Brookfield who was charged this year with the theft of $9,300 in church funds was sentenced Wednesday to 100 days in the county work release jail.

Leonard Van Vlaenderen, 51, of Cudahy was convicted by Waukesha County Circuit Judge J. Mac Davis after Van Vlaenderen pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of felony theft.

Van Vlaenderen was accused of obtaining repayment from the church for computer equipment that had been purchased with a parishioner's credit card but was returned for refunds. An audit that the church conducted showed that the church lost nearly $128,000 over three years in thefts of cash from its weekly collections, and the audit found a correlation between the missing money and the tenure of Van Vlaenderen.

Van Vlaenderen has been under scrutiny since his arrest in December 2007 on a misdemeanor charge of possessing cocaine. He was convicted of that charge in 2008 and spent a year on probation.

Pastors Lose Child Molestation Appeal

In December 2007, a 16-year-old went to a church service in Bastrop with Cooper and Mitchell. On the way back to Rayville the teen said the two men stopped the car in the parking lot of Mount Olive Baptist Church and performed oral sex on each other before doing the same to the juvenile.

Florida: A Brevard County youth minister, who is charged with soliciting sex from a minor, was arrested on Thursday. Rockledge Police took 36-year-old Jermel Manns into custody after officers said he sent a teenager a text message asking for sex.

Pastor Errol Beckford, of Celebration Tabernacle Church in Cocoa, who is Manns' uncle, claims he had no idea about his nephew’s history. “He worked in the school system, he went to bible college, he was squeaky clean”. So why no criminal background check? “There was no hint, no reason for us to do it, and he was a family member,” said Beckford, “and if you interview my family they’ll tell you this is the first they’re hearing it.”

Governor Daniels - All Horrific Crimes Committed By Atheists

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, who is being considered by some as a candidate for president in 2012, in an interview with WANE.com in December, said, "And atheism leads to brutality. All the horrific crimes of the last century were committed by atheists -- Stalin and Hitler and Mao and so forth -- because it flows very naturally from an idea that there is no judgment and there is nothing other than the brief time we spend on this Earth."

Just for the record Mitch...It is well documented that Hitler was in fact a Christian, who believed in an Aryan Jesus Christ. His interpretation of Christianity was a central motivation for his antisemitism. Mao and Stalin are typically considered having been atheists, but this due more to a lack of an official religious affiliation than anything else.

To say that "all the horrific crimes of the last century were committed by atheists" is not only inaccurate but a complete departure from reality. You are forgetting everyone from Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, George Bush, Mullah Mohammad Omar, Eric Rudolph and Charles Taylor to Jeffrey Dahmer, Charles Manson and every douchebag to ever make an appearance on this site, which now includes you.

A vast majority of the wars every fought have had, at least to some extent, religious undertones. Some examples of recent religious "hot spots" are: Afghanistan, Bosnia, Côte d'Ivoire, Cyprus, East Timor, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Kashmir, Kosovo, Kurdistan, Macedonia, Nigeria, Northern Ireland, Palestine, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia/Chechnya, Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Thailand, Tibet, Uganda and just about every abortion clinic and gay bar in the United States, to name a few.

You may also want to consider the fact that the U.S. prison population is 83.7% Christian.

Or, if you need further evidence of just how wrong you are Mitch, you could just take a look at the post above this one.

Playing An Instrument Is Anti-Islamic

UK: Muslim pupils are being withdrawn from music lessons because some families believe learning an instrument is anti-Islamic.

The move comes despite the subject being a compulsory part of the national curriculum. While parents have legal rights to withdraw children from religious and sex education classes, no automatic right exists to pull them out of lessons such as music.

One education expert said up to half of Muslim pupils were withdrawn from music lessons during Ramadan.
