Board Opts To Fire Teacher

Ohio: Supporters of John Freshwater stood in a parking lot yesterday asking God to inspire the school board to make the right decision.

Three hours later, the board announced that it intends to fire Freshwater, an eighth-grade science teacher.

Freshwater preached his Christian beliefs about how the world began, discredited evolution and didn't teach the required science curriculum, the board says. He was told to stop teaching creationism and intelligent design, but he continued to do so, an investigation found.

Muslim Orders "Honour Killing" Of His Own Daughter

Germany: A German court imprisoned a Kurdish man, 50, for life on Tuesday for ordering the "honour killing" of his own daughter after being told she had lost her virginity. A son and an Azeri friend lured the 20-year-old woman, Gulsum, to a lonely country road near the Dutch border, throttled her with a rope and clubbed her to death, inflicting horrific injuries to her face.

Judges said they were convinced the only motive to murder Gulsum had been that she was no longer a virgin and had secretly undergone an abortion.

Gulsum had rebelled against the family's Muslim-oriented rules and after suffering several beatings at home, requested help from German social workers. They arranged for her to live in an apartment, but she later moved home to her family again.

Ireland's Massive Catholic Church Abuse Scandal

Here we go, this is being called the largest child molestation scandal in Ireland's history.  Thousands of former students have come forward with stories of abuse and molestations while the Dublin Archdiocese is accused of shielding hundreds of priests from prosecution.

A new 2,600-page report on physical, emotional, and sexual abuse in Catholic-run Irish schools is “a map of an Irish hell,” said the Irish Times in an editorial. The numbers speak for themselves: 800 abusers, 200 schools, 35 years, many thousands of victims.

Dublin Archbishop Diarmuid Martin has issued an ultimatum to four bishops: resign immediately or be fired by the Vatican. The four bishops, implicated for their roles in Ireland's child molestation scandal,  are Bishop Raymond Field, Bishop Eamon Walsh, Bishop Martin Drennan and Bishop Jim Moriarty. Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowan has joined the call for the bishops to resign.

Father Thomas Naughton pleads guilty to five "sample" counts of child molestation. Naughton was convicted of similar charges in 1998 and the cover-up of his assaults is part of the scandal. Naughton received five three-year sentences, to run concurrently, with the final year suspended in each case.

Two more bishops have resigned in Ireland's widening child abuse scandal. A total of four bishops have now stepped down, with pressure building for the fifth bishop named in the Murphy Report to do the same. Bishops Eamonn Walsh, Raymond Field, James Moriarty, and Donal Murray have all offered their resignations in the last ten days. The Dublin Archdiocese is accused of shielding more than 170 priests from prosecution, usually by transferring them to other parishes.

After meeting on December 11 with the leaders of the Irish Catholic hierarchy, Pope Benedict XVI expressed his “outrage, betrayal, and shame” at the revelations that sex-abuse complaints had been covered up in the Dublin archdiocese. He offered his prayers for the victims and vowed that “the Church will continue to follow this grave matter with the closest attention in order to understand better how these shameful events came to pass and how best to develop effective and secure strategies to prevent any recurrence.”

Evil Atheists Are Not Allowed

North Carolina's constitution is clear: politicians who deny the existence of God are barred from holding office.
Opponents of Cecil Bothwell are seizing on that law to argue he should not be seated as a City Council member, even though federal courts have ruled religious tests for public office are unlawful under the U.S. Constitution.
“I'm not saying that Cecil Bothwell is not a good man, but if he's an atheist, he's not eligible to serve in public office, according to the state constitution,” said H.K. Edgerton, a former Asheville NAACP president.

Article VI of the U.S. Constitution says: “no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”  Rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution trump the restriction in the state constitution.

God, Gold, and Guns

Faux News host, and Mormon, Glenn Beck ia accused of a blatant conflict of interest concerning his frequent on-air promotion of Goldline International, a precious metals vendor that features the TV and radio host's endorsement prominently on their website. Critics charge that Beck is guilty of misleading his audience by often advising them to purchase gold without disclosing that he is in fact a "paid spokesman" for Goldline.

Beck's promotion of gold presents a potential problem for Faux News, which strictly prohibits on-air personalities from making paid product endorsements. When contacted by Daily Finance for a comment on the matter, Faux News senior vice-president for development Joel Cheatwood said the network "makes an exception for its commentators who are also radio hosts".

The end of days as foretold by Beck will be painful, but I will insulate myself by buying his gold and praying to Jebus.
