New York: A Bronx landlord was busted for allegedly cashing dozens of hefty pension checks addressed to his tenant -- even though she’s been dead for more than a decade, a city probe found.
The Rev. Victor Rosa reportedly reaped more than $241,000 in pension and welfare-fund checks intended for former city public-school teacher Maria Sicardo, the city’s special commissioner of investigation found.
It wasn’t until a city worker reached out to Rosa last year that he suddenly reported Sicardo deceased -- although he claimed she had died only recently in Puerto Rico, the city probe found. Rosa was arrested last week at his home in Orlando, Florida.
