Father Robert Timchak Gets Six Years For Child Porn

Pennsylvania: A Diocese of Scranton priest will serve up to six years in state prison for having photos of naked, underage boys on his computer.

The Rev. Robert Timchak, 44, of Milford was sentenced to between six and 72 months imprisonment after pleading guilty in August to 17 felony counts of possessing child pornography.

State police began to investigate the Rev. Timchak in April 2009 after the diocese received an anonymous tip. Six months later, he was arrested and accused of trying to delete the pornographic photos from his computer.

The average age of children in the images was 11 years old, authorities said.

  1. It's nice that the tip somehow made its way from the diocese to the police (eventually), but I would not advise anybody to report any misbehavior by any religious figure to their church. Go directly to the police, and avoid the risk of the criminal's supervisors hiding the crime or otherwise stalling the investigation. It might be wise, when reporting a crime by a religious figure, to ask to speak with an officer who is NOT a member of whatever denomination the criminal belongs to.

  2. It's sad that the tip was first reported to the principals of the schools where he taught; they turned their heads and allowed him to continue teaching.
